Re: Club Cash
CLUB CASH UPDATE

Fellow Hammers United members,

We wrote to the Club’s Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO) 16 August regarding the “use it or lose it” deadline for Club Cash balances which was due to come into effect 31 August.
We asked for the deadline to be removed and for supporters to be able to use their Club Cash as and when they see fit.
By 23 August we had received no reply so we wrote again asking for a progress update.
On 25 August the SLO replied but failed to address our request. All we were told was that the Club Cash deadline was raised with the ISC’s Ticketing Subcommittee.
We immediately wrote to both the Chair of the ISC’s Ticketing Subcommittee and the Chair of the ISC asking for details but received no reply.
On 30th August we wrote again to the Chair of the ISC and this time we got the following reply:
“The Club Cash deadline was extended to August 31st to increase the time and opportunity to redeem prior to expiry. An email was sent on 15 August and the final reminder will follow on 30th August. The Club will also use potential Conference League emails on Friday August 26th.”
We did not consider this to be a satisfactory answer and we were very disappointed that neither the Chair of the Ticketing Subcommittee nor the Chair of the ISC saw fit to challenge the club on this. Instead it seems to us that we were effectively given the Club’s line and nothing more.
We then wrote to our members asking for anyone with a Club Cash balance that was due to expire 31 August to contact us - many did, some with Club Cash balances running into hundreds of pounds.

Yesterday's we wrote to Tara Warren, West Ham United’s executive director, urging the club to change its stance on Club Cash. Details as follows:
“Hi Tara,
We wrote to Jake Heath 16 August regarding the “use it or lose it” deadline for Club Cash balances which was due to come into effect 31 August. We asked for the deadline to be removed and for supporters to be able to use their Club Cash as and when they see fit.
By 23 August Jake had not replied so we wrote again asking for a progress update.
Two days later Jake replied but failed to address our request. All he told us was that the Club Cash deadline was raised with the ISC’s Ticketing Subcommittee.
The deadline for using or losing Club Cash has now passed and Hammers United has more than 30 members (and counting) who are aggrieved that they will lose their Club Cash balances, some of which run to hundreds of pounds.
Fans use the Club’s ticket exchange to hand back match tickets for games they cannot attend.
The Club then sells these tickets at full price and receives real cash.
The ST Holder gets a fraction of the sale price that the Club achieves and this is “paid” by way of Club Cash (not real cash) which can only be redeemed against purchases with the Club.
By any measurement you choose to employ, this is a win-win for the Club and, to be fair, is acceptable to fans who choose to engage with this.
However, it is the belief of the Hammers United committee, Hammers United’s members and the wider fan base that to enforce an arbitrary deadline by which fans MUST spend their Club Cash WITH THE CLUB is both immoral and unethical, despite what is written into the terms and conditions.
None of us can see any reason why there needs to be an arbitrary deadline, especially as the current rate of inflation diminishes the value of Club Cash, thus increasing the Club’s margins when Club Cash is used in the only way it can be used: on purchases with THE CLUB.
Due to the unfortunate timing of this situation which has seen many fans “lose” their Club Cash balances, Hammers United respectfully requests that you give this matter you fullest and most urgent attention to do the right thing and reinstate all “lost” Club Cash balances with immediate effect and amend the terms and conditions of this scheme such that there will no longer be any deadline for using Club Cash and fans will be free to decide when they want to use it.
I look forward to a very swift and satisfactory response.
Kind regards
Paul Colborne
Chairman - Hammers United”

We hope the Club takes the right course of action on this matter and will provide an update as and when a reply is received.

Good work.

I can't see how this arrangement is in any way legal. I'd love to see it challenged in court. Banks can't just close your account and take your money by applying an arbitrary deadline, why should a football club be allowed to do so? and more to the point, where's the morality behind this treatment of the most loyal of customers?

Re: Club Cash
I was given £30 in club cash, yesterday because of the horrendous fuck up with the three game conference thing. Does this mean I have lost that club cash already?

Re: Club Cash
Kaiser - I reckon they're on solid ground. It's not cash, it's credit - and that expires everywhere. Even gift cards expire.

Can't see them getting something like that wrong when it could cost them a lot of money!

Re: Club Cash
Cough- No, shouldn't do. I think you have a calendar year from when it was credited to you to use it. So it should be OK until next August.

Re: Club Cash
The deadline was 31st.so i reckon if you received it on 1st it will be ok mate.

Re: Club Cash
Does not matter if the club are in the right legaly.
as it say in the hammers united letter this is a moral and ethical thing.
The club cash can only be spend with the club so they will get it back anyway and most probably with some proper cash spend on top of it.
There is not a reason why the club have got to do this.
But they are doing it anyway.
Piss takers.

Re: Club Cash
I dont get that a friend cant give you a ticket at face value, but the club gives you no money, only club cash ,then resells at five times the price to a tourest, selling a ticket like this .I think doing this the same thing the touts do, hammers united the only fans group that are fighting your corner, join up for a better deal, keep going paul and the boys.

It's quite simple, they calculate what the ticket is worth at season ticket price, based on the bank for that match. They do not want people buying ST's, and then reselling a lot of the games on at a profit.

For example, I have a cheap seat, works out about £19 a game. For the lowest band games, I get about £13 but for the highest band games I get about £25. They're rough figures, might not be exactly right, as I don't sell it on there very often. But overall, it balances out.

Re: Club Cash
To be honest, I do not see the problem. Most of the Club Cash is paid to ST holders when they sell their tickets through the club. When you renew their ticket, or buy a cup ticket, just use your club cash out, so it never gets over a year old! It's not a fucking savings account, comparing it to a bank account is just bollocks!

Re: Club Cash
Snarestone - what if you're not a STH and only go to the occasional game.

As said its a moral issue. The club isn't being hard done by for holding on to the cash indefinitely....if anything they are probably making at tidy bit of bank interest based on the current rates.

How do you accumulate club cash when not a STH?

you said in your own post earlier that MOST of the club cash goes to STH.....so not ALL then.

Its not hard to work out the answer to your question.

Re: Club Cash
I refuse to give these leeches a penny more than I have to. That’s why I never once put my season ticket up for resale. It’s a piss take how that system operates. They give you a lower than market value for it in club cash that can only be redeemed with them, and then sell it at a massive profit for real money.

They are entitled to do that and being leeches they will, you lot are all entitled not to play along in their game of ripping you off.

That being said, well done to Chav and HU for trying to do something for the fans on this.

You want them to give you more? If you sold your seat on ticket trader for all 19 games, you'd recoup the full cost of the season ticket to be able to use towards renewal. This is one area with regards to people moaning that I just don't get.

How you're being ripped off is beyond me.

Re: Club Cash
I agree with Niblets.

I can't stand GSB but on this issue, I think in general the club's position is reasonable.

I still commend HU for standing up for fans though.

Received to day from one of our members....

Let me say to everyone of you if that was one of you that had sold their Everton Villa and Southampton tickets back to the club and thought that they had over £100 quid sitting in an account ready to buy your grandchild a West Ham shirts for Xmas. Then in August the money dissappears. Money is tight for a lot of supporters at the moment. I say this is theft.

Re: Club Cash
“ How you're being ripped off is beyond me”

If they give me £20 in vouchers but sell the seat for £60 cash, I would have been ripped off. If they’d have halved the profit with me and paid me cash, then fair enough. As it was, they kept 100% of the profit.

Great business if you can get it and explains why they’re incredibly rich and most of the people who handed them the cash aren’t.
